Lions Club All-State Music Festival May 2012
Peter Murray and Steven Piselli both made Millbury High School proud as they represented us in the Lions Club Festival. Both performing in the Concert Band, and then auditioning to make a spot in the Jazz Ensemble. Sounds like they had a great time. On behalf of the students and the music program, we would like to thank the Millbury Lions Club for giving our students this opportunity year after year.
New York Trip Part 3- The final 2 days!
On Sunday we headed to Six Flags New Jersey and started out the day by doing the Safari. After posing for pictures with giraffes, we hit the park for some fun. It was a hot and sunny day! We just barely got back to the hotel as our bus broke down multiple times while trying to get off the highway exit. Once we finally returned safely to the hotel we hit the pool and enjoyed some time relaxing.
The next morning we left for the city for the last time. When we got there we were greeted by our NYC Tour Guide who showed us all around the city. After the tour, we had lunch at Grand Central Station and then ventured out into Rockefeller Center. While there we were able to do some last minute shopping and sight seeing before doing an NBC Studio tour where we saw the sets from SNL and Dr. Oz along with much more.
It was a busy trip, but it most definitely filled us all with great memories that we won’t forget. And I can speak for myself, and probably many others, thank goodness we had vacation this week to recuperate!
New York Trip- Part 2
So today we got an early start and headed for the College of Staten Island in New York to compete in a Performing Arts Consultants Music Festival. After the festival we went to the South Street Seaport for lunch, before heading over to St. Paul’s Chapel and the 9-11 Memorial. The Memorial was extra special that day as we ran into a lady from Massachusetts that was there with a coach bus honoring their lost loved ones. They had over 50 families represented, and they had placed a white flower on each of their names. I didn’t see her, but supposedly Jane Goodall was there. The site was breath taking being able to see the new fountains, some old steel rails from the original structure, and the famous pear tree up close. After the memorial we headed out to Medieval Times for dinner and a show along with our PAC Awards Ceremony. Check out the pictures!
We are proud to announce our achievements at the festival:
Marching Band- 1st Place Silver Medal
Jazz Ensemble- 1st Place Silver Medal
Concert Band- 1st Place Gold Medal (ps… Westboro HS was there and we beat them)
Concert Band- Grand Champions Highest Score in category at festival
New York Trip Part 1
Today was a busy day as it marked our first day on our big trip. We left the HS before 7 AM, and did not check into our hotel until after 11 PM! It was a very busy day, but filled with fun activities. Upon arrival in the city, we spent some free time roaming around before making our way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. After leaving the museum we spent some time at Times Square, ate dinner together at Planet Hollywood, and then split up to see two different Broadway shows including “Phantom of the Opera”, or “Mary Poppins”. Check out some pictures from that day!
April 3, 2012
Tonight the gym was filled while students showcased some different talents that people aren’t used to seeing. Some students sang and played instruments, while the main feature of the night was the MHS Winter Guard performing their show. As a special treat, current and past students prepared a special presentation in honor of Brittany Knowlton who was sadly taken from us this year. She was an alumni of the MHS Winter Guard and Music Department. Pictures coming soon!
Jazz Night 2012 went off with a bang presenting school ensembles from Shaw, Jr High, and Sr. High performing before our special guests took the stage. The Compaq Big Band dazzled the students and audience with their top notch quality sound. This event was co-sponsored by the Millbury Cultural Council and the Millbury Music Parents. Pictures coming soon!
On the weekend of March 16th and 17th the MHS Drama Club presented “Footloose”. The reviews are in and people have been saying this was one of the best shows they have ever seen done at Millbury High. Pictures coming soon!
On December 15th, the Sr. and Jr. High School held their annual Winter Concert. The auditorium was standing room only, as all of our ensembles performed to a packed house. Pictures are coming
On December 4th, several of small ensembles performed at the towns “Chain of Lights” Festival. The Jazz Combo, Sax Choir, and Brass Ensemble all played holiday music to a packed senior center.
