Millbury High School Music Department

On Thursday, June 2, we had our second annual “Night of Percussion” Concert. The day started with performances for the school in an assembly. Then we had a 2 hour clinic with our High School Percussion Ensemble and the Shaw School Percussion Ensemble. After a nice pizza dinner we filled the gym for the first portion of the concert featuring our students. The second half of the concert moved to a packed auditorium featuring local professional musicians Pieter Struyk, Mike Morel, Rick Costa and Dan Ferreira and featuring special guests Jason Richard- MHS Percussion Staff, and Mike Castro MHS Alumni “09. This event was sponsored by the Millbury Community Service Learning Project Grant, and the Millbury Cultural Council.

The Millbury Jr. Sr. High Music Department had their Spring Concert. We had some great performances by all the groups including Chorus, Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band from both the Jr. and Sr. High. Here is a picture of the Senior High Concert Band, and a picture of all the seniors in the music program. We will miss you all!

On May 14, a few of our ensembles traveled to West Springfield to participate in the Great East Music Festival. Each group did a great job at the festival, and we had a lot of fun at the park. Check out some of the pictures we have thanks to MMPA member Mrs. Murray.

Sr. High Jazz Ensemble- Gold Medal (very high rating!)

Greg Abate and his trio came for our 5th Annual Jazz Night. Mr. Abate was featured playing with the Shaw Elementary, Jr. High School, and Sr. High School Jazz Ensembles. Prior to the concert we were lucky enough to get an opportunity to work with Mr. Abate in a rehearsal/clinic setting. This event was co-sponsored by the Millbury Cultural Council and the Millbury Music Parents Association.

Our showcase concert gave students the chance to perform instruments as either a solo or a small group. The main feature of the concert was the Millbury High School Winter Guard, as they just completed their NESBA season coming in 5th place.
