My Educational Philosophy

I believe that every student has the ability to participate in and find a love for music. My job as a music educator, is to help guide students to find this ability, and give them the opportunity and tools to express it to the world. It is not my job to “teach” music to students, but share it with them in any way possible through listening, learning, writing and performing. As much as I consider myself a music educator, I feel equally responsible for teaching students life lessons and skills that will help them in the future. On any given day I consider myself lucky to teach somebody something about music, however, I feel as though it is more important to use music as my tool to help students learn about and appreciate life.

From a performing ensemble stand point, there are many factors that can limit a program. It is not important what you have, but how you use what you have and the process in which you take to help you get there.

My twelve years of experience teaching music/band in public schools in New England has shaped me into what and who I am today. While I will miss my current students and colleagues, I am eager and excited to be making this move to Texas and am looking forward to growing and being part of all the amazing things Texas schools have to offer.
